Bigger, Faster, Stronger than Last Year

January-27-15

For the true football player there is no offseason.  The winter months are where the hard work is done to ensure success on the field in the spring, summer and fall.  The Huronia Stallions have partnered with Athletic Performance Systems (APS) to provide an offseason training program which seeks to give players the next step in athletic readiness.

Stallions Head Coach Martino DiSabatino stressed the importance and relevance of the program by stating how, “knowledge and understanding in the realm of sport specific training is constantly evolving due to science and technology.  The Stallions hope to be at the forefront of athletic training to best prepare their players for success.”  Recent players who have benefitted from the program are Carleton University Raven Matt Holiday and current players Tyler Richards, Kyle Comstive, Nick Martino and Mateo Bertucci.  10 Stallions were involved in a Christmas break camp at APS led by Stallions Defensive Coordinator and Strength and Conditioning Coach Taylor Shadgett.

The camp focussed on position specific drills, Olympic lifting, nutrition and the big three; squat, dead lift and bench press.  From January until May players are continuing with the work completed over the holidays. The Stallions also encourage their players to compete in other sports like basketball and track and field in the offseason.

New players are welcome and can contact the Stallions at 705-329-0399 or hoof@huroniastallions.on.ca for more information.   APS is located at 61 King Street, Unit 17 in Barrie and can be reached at 705-792-4278.
