The Huronia Stallions Bantam team came into the final game of the regular season looking for a win in a rematch against a strong North Halton team that handily defeated the Stallions in week 3. Brandon Vieira had an interception on the first position of the game which led to a Stallions score. The game went back and forth until the second quarter when Rhys Rusby went to work. Rusby scored five electrifying touchdowns in the first half alone to give the Stallions a 36-21 halftime lead. North Halton came out firing in the Second half but were stymied in their comeback attempt with some big defensive plays. Cornerback Brock Allen had two of the three Stallions interceptions in the second half. Rusby salted away the win with two more touchdowns to give him 7 on the day, 18 in his last three games and 28 on the season. Rusby had over 2500 yards rushing and 20 touchdowns of 50 yards or more in an eight game season. What is even more remarkable is this is his first season of organized football. The Stallions finish the year
3-5 and will take on the first place Peterborough Wolverines in a quarterfinal playoff match. The game is this Saturday at 1 PM at Kenner Field in Peterborough.
The Huronia Stallions Varsity Team defeated Brantford 36-7 to finish the regular season a perfect 8-0. This is the first time since the inaugural season in 1993 that the Varsity team has gone undefeated in the regular season. The Stallions elected to rest several starters in the game and give experience to some younger players. Tailback John Shields scored 4 touchdowns and rushed for 159 yards. Shields won the OFC rushing title with 887 yards to go with 8 touchdowns. Runningback Josh Simmonds scored the other touchdown to round out the scoring. Veteran Offensive Linemen Chris Maybee had a great game opening up running lanes for the Stallions backs. Young Linebacker Selman Demiray had several tackles and 2 quarterback sacks. Jay Vandam also had a strong game on defence. Rookie DBs Maxwell Melo and Ryan Castelo stepped in and did a terrific job. The Stallions begin the playoffs this Saturday at 7 PM at the Barrie Sports Complex in Midhurst against the Oakville Titans. The Junior Varsity team travels to North Halton this Sunday at 4 PM in another Quarterfinal Playoff tilt.
