The Huronia Stallions Varsity Football team defeated Nipissing 51-14 to improve to 3-4 on the season. The Stallions were led by a big game from first year Varsity player Geoanthony Vargas who rushed for 202 yards and three touchdowns on just 11 carries. Veteran Wide Receiver Nick Stadnyk had a stellar game with a rushing touchdown as well as four receptions for 166 yards and two receiving scores. Connor Paquette punched in a short run to round out the offensive scoring. The defence was led by Linebacker Charlie Doering who had 8 solo tackles, 3 assists and a 35 yard interception return for a touchdown. Derek Addy and Dayton Towns both had Quarterback sacks to round out the defensive highlights.
Playoff Implications and Upcoming Schedule
The Stallions Varsity team has an outside chance to make the playoffs if 1-6 Vaughn can defeat 3-4 Sudbury and if the Stallions defeat the 5-2 North Halton Crimson Tide this Saturday at 6:30pm at the Barrie Sports Complex in Midhurst. The Stallions have never failed to qualify for the Varsity playoffs since they joined the OFC in 2011. The Stallions Junior Varsity team has a showdown with North Halton this Saturday at 2pm at the Barrie Sports Complex. The winner of the game will secure first place in the Northern Conference and with it home field advantage in the Conference playoffs. The Bantam Stallions are 3-3 and looking to stay ahead of a 2-4 North Halton squad in a tight Northern Conference race. The two teams will square off in a Friday Night Lights game at 8pm at the Barrie Sports Complex.
